Did You Know This About Proteins?

Protein is essential for structural health and effective functioning of our cells. There are about 20 ammino acids (building blocks) which are used to build between 80 to 400,000 different kinds of proteins that the body requires every single day.

According to the World Health Organization our body requires 1 to 1.5 gms. / Kg. of body weight. Too choose the right sources of protein it’s important to understand the difference between dietary and absorbed protein (bio-available).

For the body to absorb protein from food, it needs to break it down into short chain amino acids. Foods that can be entirely broken down and utilized have a score of 1 on a protein absorbable index.

There are 9 essential amino acids that must be consumed through our food. As Indians unfortunately, our ability to build and retain muscle is very low because our diet doesn’t contain the right balance of amino acids. Therefore, supplementation plays an important role in bridging the protein gap, daily.

The body has no ability to store protein and requires about 1 to 1.5 gms. of protein per kg. of body weight, to avoid taking it from the tissues and muscles. Furthermore, the body cannot absorb large quantities of protein at a time. It needs to be eaten at regular intervals throughout the day.
