Protein is essential for structural health and effective functioning of our cells. There are about 20 amino acids (building blocks) that are used to build between 80 to 400,000 different kinds of proteins that the body requires, every single day.

According to the World Health Organization, our body requires 1 to 1.5 gms. / Kg. of body weight. To choose the right sources of protein it’s important to understand the difference between dietary and absorbed protein (bio-available).

ABSORPTION

For the body to absorb protein from food, it needs to break it down into short chain amino acids. Foods that can be entirely broken down and utilized have a score of 1 on a protein absorbable index. 

AMINO ACIDS

There are 9 essential amino acids that must be consumed through our food. As Indians unfortunately, our ability to build and retain muscle is very low because our diet doesn’t contain the right balance of amino acids. Therefore, supplementation plays an important role in bridging the protein gap, daily.

QUANTITY

The body has no ability to store protein, nor can it absorb it in large quantities. Invariably, our low protein intake results in proteins being extracted from our tissues and muscles. To prevent this from happening, it is important to consume small quantities of protein rich foods at regular intervals, throughout the day.
